Somerset Health and Wellbeing Advisory Network

Helping you to help others

Cases of Covid-19 in Somerset remain very high and have almost doubled in the last reporting week to 1,097.4 per 100,000. We are above both the South-West and national average. We have also seen a significant increase in hospitalisations data for Somerset to around 150 Covid-19 in-patients in Somerset hospitals. The majority of these patients are not ill with Covid-19 but have been detected through routine screening.

Please continue to share Public Health guidance with your networks, particularly during this time of high community transmission. Choosing to wear a face covering in crowded or indoor spaces, regularly washing your hands and keeping occupied spaces well ventilated can all limit the risk of catching a virus and have a positive impact on reducing sickness levels and improving business continuity.

On the 16th March the UK Health Security Agency updated the guidance to the spring COVID-19 booster offer for those aged 75 years and older residents in care homes. People aged 75 years and older, residents in care homes for older people, and those aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system will be offered a spring booster of the COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments will be available through the national vaccination booking service shortly. There is leaflet available to download, which has been translated and copies are also available to order for free.

Vaccination Resources for 5 to 11 year olds

The JCVI recommends that 5 -11 year olds be offered the vaccine. This has been approved by the UK’s medicines regulator, to boost immunity and increase their protection against any future waves of COVID-19. The NHS wants to support families to make an informed choice, and to make things convenient and child-friendly for those who do decide to get the vaccination.
Please share these 'Vaccination Resources for 5 - 11 year olds' resources with you networks.
