DHSC Cost Collection Exercise

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is currently in the process of setting the 2024-2025 rate for NHS-funded Nursing Care (FNC). Given wider inflationary pressures, DHSC are now conducting a further one-off ‘cost collection exercise’ to ensure that they have the most recent and accurate data available when calculating the national rate.
This ‘cost collection exercise’ is being informed by a one-off cost collection exercise, run via Capacity Tracker.

The survey is non-mandatory, however, DHSC would like to encourage as many providers as possible to complete this survey. Data from providers will be requested on the number of residents by funding type and payroll information on both pay and hours worked by registered nurses for the two months of April 2023 and September 2023 (or their most recent completed payroll period).
In order to access the survey, care providers will need to logon to the Capacity Tracker. Once you have logged in, you should be able to see a direct link to the survey.
If you are experiencing any difficulties with accessing the survey, please email the FNC inbox at fnc@dhsc.gov.uk.

Please note that the survey will close at midnight on Wednesday 15 November 2023.

Thank you for taking the time in completing this survey. Your assistance is gratefully appreciated.

Preparing for measles resurgence in England

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) recently published a measles risk assessment which concluded that although the risk of a UK-wide measles epidemic is considered low, a measles outbreak of between 40,000 and 160,000 cases could occur in London, due to sub-optimal uptake of the Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine in the capital. Evidence also shows that outside of London, there is a high risk of cases linked to overseas travel leading to outbreaks in specific population groups. There has been a steady rise in measles cases this year.

Measles is highly infectious and can lead to serious complications, particularly in immunosuppressed individuals and young infants. It is also more severe in pregnancy, and increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, or preterm delivery.

UKHSA is asking health professionals to note the following:

Individuals with suspected or known measles:

  • should be isolated immediately on arrival when attending health care settings to reduce the risk of other patients being exposed
  • all suspected measles cases should be promptly notified by phone to the local Health Protection Team (HPT) to facilitate timely public health action
MMR vaccine:

  • all healthcare workers (including receptionists, ambulance workers etc.) should have satisfactory evidence of protection against measles to protect both themselves and their patients. Satisfactory evidence of protection includes documentation of having received two or more doses of a measles containing vaccine and/or a positive measles IgG antibody test. Occupational Health service should have ready access to up-to-date records to support outbreak response.
  • new entrants from abroad and newly registered patients should have their immunisation history checked and missing doses caught up.
